I am not a Benz owner yet but am looking to buy a used C300 as my second car. I saw one today and test drove a 2009 4MATIC with 84k miles on it. It's fully loaded and being sold by a BMW dealership. They are asking for $18,500. My budget is 20k max not including taxes, fees etc.
Before I ask for your opinion if this is a good deal. I would like to say that I am software engineer and a FAA certified aircraft mechanic so I am good at judging and figuring out how things work and even fixing them. Having said that I am not familiar with MB's since I have never owned one. I have always been a Japanese car type of a guy but looking to expand my horizons.
The car is in very good shape and was driven by one owner as their commuter car. So mostly highway miles. There aren't many things I noticed as issues with the car but I did notice that the front left bumper was scrapped towards the bottom from probably jumping the curb. Also noticed a tinny crack in the sunroof switch which I was told was due to the driver being a female and having nails. Driving impression of the car was very good, there were no vibrations or sound at 80 mph, very solid. Although I didn't find it to have a throaty acceleration like I imagined.
First of all my major concern is the miles, should I buy a used car with so many miles on it? Even if I am getting a 50,000 mile warranty on it?
Second what should I look out for in terms of common issues? From what I have read electrical system is the biggest concern and mechanically the car is suppose to be extremely reliable.
Third any opinion on the price to mileage ratio? Should it be cheaper or is this a fair price?
I will really appreciate any advice you guys can give me.
Thanks for reading!
