Engine swap e320 to v8

I recently bought a 1999 e430. The only strange thing is that It originally had a v6 with a metal key. It now has a v8 with a laser cut key, my question is how can I find out the year of my engine considering the situation? If anyone could help me out it'll be greatly appreciated.

Not sure the key is relevant to the engine swap. All W210s have a metal key that unlocks the manual locks in driver's door and a few other places but not the ignition; the ignition is activated by an IR device in the end of the key fob you stick in the ignition.

The only real way to identify your engine, if it has indeed been swapped, is to find the serial number on it.

How do you know it started out with a V6? The VIN for an E320 (non-4Matic) starts with WDBJF65H, and the E430 starts with WDBJF70H.

My friends dad owns a 320 and the body style is identical. It was refurbished by a MB dealership (has the sticker inside the door). I may be completely off base it just seems strange they would put metal key locks including the trunk and glove box.

Those are standard on W210s.

By the way, there's an entire forum on this site for the W210 chassis, which includes yours. You'll be more likely to find specific answers there.
