Radio question

I can turn on my radio without pushing the keyless ignition button on my '14 CLS550. Is that normal? I thought I had to push it one time to simulate a key being turned to the 'On' position. Know I can go by the dealership, but preferred to get opinions from you all first. Thanks !!

Yes, its completely normal. Its set up that way to allow listening to the audio system without adding any additional power draw from other systems. It will continue to operate for approx 30minutes or until the battery voltage drops below about 11.3volts to still allow the vehicle to start (which every comes first). This feature will also work on non-keyless go equipped vehicle.

Hope that answers your question!

joshuajeeper: Thank you very much for the reply. Good information. Just picked up the '14 CLS550 on Wednesday and trying to learn all about the car. When I was able to turn the radio on without depressing the keyless entry starter button, it got me wondering if that was the way it was supposed to work. You explained it very well and I feel a lot better that is perfectfully normal for my new 'toy'.

Isn't the manual explaining those things?

kajtek1: Had looked in the manual, but could not find the answer to my specific inquiry, thus the reason/purpose for posting. I was very pleased and appreciative of the gentlemans response.

Thanks for explanation.
Too many members find it easier to start forum topic, than opening the manual.
I think fact that you can type on the net during business hours might have something to do with it as well.

No problem and glad to help! Finding small information like that in an 800+ page owners manual can be a real pain! Even with the interactive owners manual on the COMAND it can be quite difficult.

Any more questions? Feel free to PM me to elude some of the flak you'll get for asking them on a new thread.

joshuajeeper: Thank you very much for your understanding of the challenge one faces in perusing both the paper manual as well as the digital manual on the COMAND interactive site. I fully understand research and due diligence in seeking an answer, but occasionally an aberrant event occurs and I was unable to find a resolve. I again greatly appreciate your willingness to lend me an assist. Hopefully I will be able resolve any questions or concerns on my own in the future, but am grateful for your offer to PM You should something come up.
