From what I've heard, you could do very well selling 500, 540 & 560 SEC into the Northeast, as there seem to be NONE there that aren't rusted-out. - Oddly enough, there ARE some very NICE SL up there, as they tend to be garaged & driven only in the summer.
(I looked for a rust-free SEC for over 2 years, when I lived in Fairfax County, VA. - Before I gave up, I must have looked at 2 dozen & NONE of the SEC were NOT rusted. - Otoh, I know of a one-owner PRISTINE baby-blue/white 230SL with <30,000 actual miles in Baltimore County, MD. - It "summers" on Oak Island, NC with a "flashy blond" & isn't driven otherwise, except to & from MD/NC.)
FWIW, I drove to Dallas to buy a LOW-mileage, dark green/green, rust-free 540SEC (that's the AMG Euro-version) several months ago.
Called the fellow & told him that I was "on the way & will be at your place by 6PM". - When I got there, he was SELLING it to another guy from Dallas for MORE $$$$$$$. =====> I was NOT happy.- We stayed in Dallas overnight, ate a BIG plate of BBQ & drove back to SA the next day.
BTW, MY best buddy drove his pristine 350SDL to Milwaukee, WI about 2 weeks ago & has turned down more than twice what he paid for "the gleaming gold Benz" here in SA. = Same problem: RUST from road salt.
