new member urgent help needed

Hi all ,member here. I have a 1998 slk 230 with 53000miles onthe clock.
I purchased the car last year and noticed a couple months after that the engine would cut out whilst driving it, however it would re start after a couple of minutes and inever thought much of it.
the problem has got much worse of late and now wont start for days when it does cut out, and it is cutting out very frequently.
Ive read a few topics on here and have folowed some of the advice. I have spent over £500 and have not solved the problem, mymechanic can not solve the problem and neither can my local mercedes benz dealership.
The car will work fine one day, but not start atall the next.I will be driving along and all of a sudden it will just cut out on me, the roof will go up and down and all the electrics will work, the fan comes on but just wont start.
ive took advice on here and replaced the crankshaft sensor, had a new alternator fitted, had the k40 relay sensor out (appears to be in perfect condition ). mercedes benz have had the car 3 weeks and said that no fault codes are showing up, they tell me it could be the k40.
I am at my wits end and am just spending money and getting nowhere, could anyone please help me out with some advice or has anyone had the same problem?.
All feed back greatly appreciated, many thanks kurt .

I had a similar problem with my S-class. It just died while in drive and luckily I was in my drive way. I had towed it to my local garage and they found the problem and fixed it for around $150. I was happy it wasn't something major. The only problem is I don't remember which part it was that was replaced. I will look for my receipt to look at the part replaced. I should have it close by because I just took all of my paper work out of that car because I traded it in. I will get back to you on that.

Welcome; please click user cp and edit details so you can add your vehicle and location to your profile, that's often useful information when you're seeking assistance.

Also, please note that you are posting a request for help on a specific model in the new member forum...which is really just a place to say "Hi, I'm here."

For help with a specific car, it's best to search and post in the forum specific to the car, in this case the R170 forum.

And if you do so, I think you'll find that the K40 relay should be regarded as a chief suspect. It may just need to be resoldered, and there are youtube videos on how to do that.

Good luck.

Welcome to Benzworld, does the fuel pump get a signal when this engine will not start?

Well you are obviously not the diy car mechanic type, do you have a friend who can help you with this, a diy type or a mechanic?

Well he obviously thought cps to start with, the signal for the pump starts with the cps. The new cps may be a cheap one, there are lots on the market so to test this we need to know if the engine is getting fuel, ask him if the engine is getting fuel.
