Hello from San Diego
Advice: ABC in general; trunk latch ports/gorilla glue
Hello! I'm Paula and live in Cardiff by the Sea (North San Diego county). I've used this site so many times, and enjoyed the wit and info, I thought it was time I joined in. This site allowed me to save about $600 replacing the E320 blower motor regulator (instead of the entire thing) using an S-Class regulator and altering the harness.
I bought a 2006 SL500, 44K miles in March. I traded in my '98 E320 150K miles (I loved, loved it - never gave me ANY major problems). My commute is 4 miles (one way), drive about 8 - 10K per year. But I'm concerned about the possible/probable repairs for the SL500. There's a lot I don't know about this car! And after a post-purchase SNAFU with the dealership, I'm a bit uncomfortable asking the salesperson about the features.
Reading here, the ABS has scared me already. ABC and Drive Carefully! came on once for a second or two driving over a bump, and went away. I was told that it is OK to drive in town ABC lifted all the way. That just sounds questionable to me, as though it's being "in use" constantly. But I don't want to bottom out! I'm dodging all potholes, man-covers and even lane bumps.
Also want to try DIY gorilla glue trunk latch ports for auto-close problem.
Advise most welcome!
I think that's probably way more than I needed to say......but nice to meet you!
Thanks - Paula
