2008 C300 Auto Transmission Question
Gentlemen, I purchased a used 2008 C300 a few mos ago. I enjoy the car and my wife loves it! My question centers around the operation of the automatic transmission. Unlike any other vehicle I have driven the trans in this car always wants to downshift instead of "coast", especially when traveling downhill. In other words when I let off the accelerator in anticipation of a stop ahead instead of the trans coasting up to the light in the highest gear, the trans is continually downshifting as the vehicle road speed slows. This serves to "hold back" the car, just as if I had downshifted a manual trans. Is this the correct operation of the trans in this vehicle or should the trans operate like most other cars and remain in "high" gear when coasting only to downshift when stopped or accelerated?
