How to wash 380SL / 560SL

might be a stupid question, but just curious if its OK to take a 380SL or 560SL through a car wash? if not, how do you wash the car with the soft top?

As far as I'm concerned, it's not OK to take any car through a car wash. Your car can suffer damage to the paint and trim. And touchless car washes don't really get the car clean. And I wouldn't let indifferent car wash workers loose on my car.

But to answer your question...

I assume you are talking about taking the car through a car wash with the soft top instead of the hard top. If you no other alternatives, it's probably OK. It may leak a little and the car wash detergent will probably not be rinsed completely from the top fabric. Don't do this too often.

When I had my SL320, I would wash the top using a mild detergent and then rinse with clear water until all of the cleaner was out. You can then blot it dry with a towel and let it air dry the rest of the way.

For the car body I would recommend Optimum no-rinse car wash. It is especially useful you don't have a driveway or hose nearby and thus cant do the traditional hose & bucket hand wash. Or if you don't like the environmental impact of water waste or soap/grime into the drains. I've been using it for years and it works great. Bonus - if you have a garage you can wash the car inside during cold winters!

Not sure how well it will work - if at all - on the actual soft top material.
