'99 E320 (210) thunk

Car emits a solid thunk under strong acceleration from a standing stop.
Engine/tranny mount?
I first thought it was steering as I had a worn tie rod but it still thunks after I replaced the rod.
Any particular procedure to follow to check the mounts?
If one is bad should I replace 'em all or only the bad one?
As far as I know, they are all original.

Yes, most likely the engine mounts. Pretty common. Open the hood and power brake it , im sure you know how to but just in case you don't, hold brake, put into driver and gas it while holding the brake. When your in drive you will see the left side of the engine "jump" up. Do the same in reverse and this will check the right side mount. You will actually see the engine pop up if they are really worn. I would replace both and the trans mount as well.
