I used advice from this site in my decision to buy the white 1985 Mercedes 300D turbo. I used site advice to have the car inspected at My Mercedes Place in Cumming, GA--recommended by members here, and also to get a key copy made by a locksmith. I am on the site almost daily, so membership makes sense.
As a first time Mercedes owner, I am grateful for the advice found herein.
My Mercedes Place said that the car needs a front end suspension, a/c compressor and possibly a new transmission (348,000 miles with broken odometer). Yet another mechanic said the transmission does not need to be replaced; it needs to be serviced.
Aside from the problems listed, and minor cosmetic issues, it is a strong running vehicle. I enjoy driving it.
My other vehicle is a 1990 Honda Civic Wagon with 130,000 original miles (manual transmission). I replaced the timing belt and a/c compressor in it a couple years ago. It has operated without a single problem since.
