Call a local garage and have it towed, it'll be cheaper than fixing your car.

He could have joined just because of this problem.

One could argue that taking advice from someone with only 7 more posts is equally a fool.

Be careful what you say as it can reflect upon yourself.

You have a wonderful day now.

------------------------------------------

At any rate, asking to hotwire a car when it's not verifiable that it's yours is just silly.

If it's your car, simply have a towing company tow it. If you've got AAA, it's free for the first few miles, and you're only moving a few feet.

You'd have to practically disassemble the steering/dash to defeat the steering lock with normal tools.

I didn't give advice at all. I said it was foolish to tell anyone who asks how to "Hotwire" a car the means to do it. You think that's a good idea?

Especially when the user can't wait 5 whole days for the dealer to give him a key, yet he would rather rip his column apart to jump the posts on his ignition circuit.

I will gladly be known as the guy who is cautious about telling new users how to effectively disable all antitheft devices in a car so he can "move it".

I will gladly be known as "the guy who's cautious about car theft". I'll wear that reflection. Thanks.

You're right, you didn't give any advice, you just made a blanket statement.

Look at all the answers before yours, did anyone discuss hotwiring or disabling the anti-theft? No.

You make it sound like you're the only one who's "cautious" about doing so. Recommending you for a moderator position since you've got your stuff together.

Did you also notice anyone pointing out the insanity of the question being posed? No. No one pointed out that it was an absurd question in the first place.

Correct, I made a general blanket statement to remind all users how foolish it would be to answer this question.

Please do nominate me for the position. Nothing wrong with being overly cautious. I'll wear the badge of "Anti theft Mod" proudly.

Don't think I have my stuff any more together than anyone else here. Just not willing to help float ideas how to move a car without a key to anyone who can't wait five days and would rather jump ignition terminals to start a mercedes. Any advice given was too much to be honest.

But you'll disagree just for the sake of it I suspect.

Because it's so absurd, why address it? It's a given that anyone asking to hotwire a car could have malicious intent. But before jumping to conclusions in the first post saying "OMFG A CAR THEIF! CALL BENZWORLD DETECTIVES, PRONTO!"

It's good to let the OP share a little bit more before jumping to conclusions.

Overly cautious is good, but paranoid is another. And it's a little asinine to play law for "new" users when you yourself are "new".

Unless you've read the forum policies, for all you know this could be a perfectly acceptable question.
