Transmission fluid color (from 236.14 spec sheet)

What color is brand new, official MB automatic transmission fluid that conforms to the 236.14 spec, part #001 989 68 03 13? I had an idie do work on my car (tranny rebuild) who claims to have put in the official Mercedes 001 989 68 03 13 fluid but when I got back home and wanted to make sure they put the right amount in, the level measuring tool (transmission "dipstick") keeps coming out with pale yellow, nearly transparent fluid on it. I've changed the fluid myself several times in the past and the measuring tool had always come out with either red or pale red/pinkish fluid on it. I checked again several days later just to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me and it's still coming out pale yellow, nearly transparent. I haven't been driving the car just in case and I'm currently trying to find out what the deal is.

I've used fluids 001 989 21 03 10 (236.10 spec) and 001 989 45 03 13 (236.12 spec) in the past. Have they changed the color additive recently? Or did the indie mistakenly put something else in?

Edit: Before anyone says this, a white lint free rag was used to wipe the plastic part of the fluid level measuring tool so I could actually see what color the fluid was.

It is tinted red.

MB makes an ATF that is used for transfer cases on some 4matics that is a light brown clear fluid. It will eat up the transmission if it was used. I would point this out to the shop and ask them to show you the receipts for the MB fluid or MB Approved fluid that they purchased.

The shop told me they used Pentosin ATF that Pentosin claims is compatible with the 722.6. It's not on the approved fluid list. The shop refuses to change the fluid to MB ATF unless I pay them for a flush/fluid. I had suspected it to be Pentosin or Febi ATF because those are the only manufacturers that I could find that made fluid that wasn't red.

That is correct. The Pentosin is good stuff. Your transmission should be just fine. Glad that it all worked out for you. They should not print or tell the customer the MB part# for a consumable item if they are used a 3rd party fluid. It is good to see an owner check up on the work performed. Even the very best shops can make mistakes.
