Hi everybody, I just wanted to wrap back and let people know my experience with car shippers. Many of them seem to be fly-by-night operations, or simply incompetent, dishonest, or both.
I recommend people stay away from Profession Moving Solutions, based in Tampa, FL. They took a $200 deposit from me and never picked up my car. I am trying to get it refunded but I stupidly did not use a credit card and it's a little harder to get back with a bank card.
I can heartily recommend Montway. They were honest, realistic, and fairly priced. They picked up my car within a couple of days of my order, kept in touch with me while it was being delivered, and they got it to me when they said they would. They charged me $1099 to ship my 300D from Ohio to California, which wasn't the cheapest, but it was definitely in the ballpark, and they're great service was worth it. They seem to be a diamond in the rough.
But I would also stay away from uShip.com. They're essentially just a middleman that collects a pretty exorbitant fee to connect you with a bunch of shippers and give you quotes. Not only that, but they hide how much they will ultimately charge you--I paid over 10% of my shipping fee to them. I could have just called Montway Shipping directly and saved $125 dollars. They seem pretty useless.
So, the bottom line: if you need a car shipped, try Montway, stay away from uShip.com, don't go for the lowest bid, get everything in writing, and always pay with a major credit card. And for heaven's sake, do not even go near Professional Moving Solutions.
