2008 R320 CDI temporary power loss when cold
I'm having the following problem with my 2008 R320 CDI. Various mechanics say the computer doesn't tell them anything, so they are not sure what's wrong and want to see if a new turbo for $3,000 will fix it. Before I start having anyone throw parts at the issue, wanted to get feedback to make sure I understand potential issues and solutions.
On cold or cool days (<65F), when I first start the car and take off, the car has very little power and higher than usual RPMs (3,000 as opposed to 2,000). After a few minutes (1-2), the car will stall/lurch twice, then power returns and the car runs fine. When it 'stalls', it doesn't require a restart. It 'stalls' twice every time. This behavior occurs multiple times a day if the car has sat for awhile.
Based on existing posts, I am assuming it is turbo related somehow, as once the turbo 'kicks in' everything seems fine.
Also, I'm a terrible mechanic and posses a very basic level of auto knowledge, Can change my own oil and air filters, but that's it.
My first post, so topic and etiquette feedback appreciated!
