What do the wipers and windows have in common? I suspect a bad ground wire. Follow the negative wire from your battery to the body. Also find the bare metal wire that connects the body to the engine / transmission (not sure on your car but look near the starter). Are these in good shape and corrosion free?

As for nickle and dimeing you - this car is at an age where you will have more of these things go wrong. Everything can be fixed but it will cost something. You should fix this - if it is a ground it will be cheap-ish to fix. But then sell it for whatever you can get for it and buy a 5 year old car or newer. MB If you can afford it but even if it's a Corolla you will be happier with a car that just works.

Some folks love fixing every little thing and some don't.

Good luck
