A Class 160 Avantgarde: Engine Control Unit
Greetings from Down Under - Australia!
I stumbled onto this site, while I am desperately seeking for answers to my problem. I own a 2000 A Class 160 Avantgarde Mercedes Benz. I bought it as Brand New and was assured that the car was fully imported from Germany.
Within the first month of driving the car, it had a faulty fuel pump. As it was still under warranty, the dealer "Diesel Motors" in Perth, Western Australia had to replace it, after more than 5 times of going backward and forward to their office, continuously complaining about the poor performance of the car.
Over the years, I had some problems about it like the blinkers and some electrical components.
Last year, my biggest problem occurred. While I was driving along the high way, the car stalled and the dashboard light came on, and totally stopped. I had to re start it. At times, it surged, then the dashboard light came on showing BAS/ESP in red, and all the other symbols/icon appeared red and the engine cuts off. I immediately arranged for my car to be checked by the dealer's service department, detailing all the faults that had occurred.
In less than an hour, I got a call from the Service Department, that my car's ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (part on D62103) had to be replaced. I was assured that after it's replaced with a brand new engine control unit, all the problems will be fixed. As I was desperate for my car to be fixed, I agreed. It cost me A$3367.85 for the replacement.
Last November 2012 (8 months after the repair) the same faults are back. I am scared to go back to the dealer, as they will definitely charged me like "hell"!
Is there anyone who had the same problem with my car? Why it starts and surges, then dashboard light comes on, finally engine cuts off. When re started once or twice, it runs again, like nothing happened for a day or two, then the same problems comes back again.
Please help me how to fix these problems.
