purchasing e430

So I've had enough of upstate new York winters. I'm my '83 240d doesn't install much confidence in single digit weather without a power source to keep it heated. I test drove a 2001 e430 4matic tonight, 115K mis. With full service history. Extremely clean car. A few pixels out in display.

Overall impression was excellent, tight in every way. Only concern was it seemed a bit stiff and seemed to bounce around a bit on what was a pretty rough road. My '05 Yukon seemed smoother over it. I've driven 190e's, 280c's, slk's, and my diesel and i was surprised how stiff it seemed. The temperature was about 25 degree F and the car its not registered, so it may have been sitting for a day or so. (seller is allowing neighbor to use while his vehicle is being repaired)

I have never driven a 4matic before but had heard they do seem a bit rough. I've agreed already to purchase the car and don't think there is anything at all wrong with it, just wondering if what I'm describing its normal?

The vehicle its a 2 owner car, owned by the father of an independent sales and repair center (exclusively German and British cars) with an excellent reputation and i timed my query just right as this car was not brought into their so yet and I'm getting a decent deal

The car has everything minus navigation, including ventilated seats. All service records and the very particular previous owner was very meticulous in replacing anything that seemed pdf before any thing was broken our damaged

You know there is a forum dedicated to the W210, right?

Lots of great info in there, including a great common issues thread in the help/DIY stickies.

The 4matic does tend to ride a little stiffer than the 2 wheel drive version. But it sounds like you found a great example, though I would still want a good PPI by a quality indie just to rule out something you might overlook.

Good luck.

Im scoring the w210 forum now. The seller is the co-owner of the only independent shop that i know of in the area, and all the service was done (since he bought it for his father w/66,000 mis.) at his shop except replacing the sunroof and . cassette.

It'll be a few weeks but I'll post some pics if all goes well.
