Hi I just bought my first Mercedes, a 1991 190e with a 1.8 litre engine & a 4 speed standard. It seems to be a very basic model without cruize control, or power seats. I bought it in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. It has been sadly neglected in all maintenence issues. The oil was so bad. 2 oil changes in the first 200kms. Now runs 10-50 Mobil 1. New plugs, cap & rotor, wires. vacume lines, air filtre. Several bottles of injector cleaner. Found a knowledgable europeon car mechanic (his english sucks) a couple kilometers north of Chiang Rai. Who did a tuneup fixed the crazy idle problem & blasted a lot of carbon out of somewhere. I also redid the air con system. Next will be the wheel bearings, a look at the exhaust, and replacement of the fluids in the rear end, and transmission. I am still clearing out carbon every drive.(Injector cleaner) If I was in Canada it would be Seafoamed. My Thai language is not good enough for me to find the thai Equivalent.(if they have such). The handling is impressive, & it seems to run reasonably well on highway. Stop & go it needs rpm. I think it has been lugged a lot in delusion of gas savings in its previous life.
