WARNING! Steel wheel weights

The shops in my area have begun using steel wheel weights. The problem with this is that they are thicker than the old lead weights. In my case ('87 190DT w/stock 6 in rims), The clip on weights were chunky enough to foul the tie rod ends. Fortunately, I keep everything and had some old ends with good boots, because the boots were ripped to shreds in two turns of the wheel. The only way to weight them with steel is to use stick-on weights inside the rim. Insist on this next time you buy tires.

I put pellets inside 2 sets of my tires and not only enjoy smooth ride, but clean wheels as well.
