Smile Comand code reset required?

Am about to replace my battery on my 2003 ML and wondered if I am going to have to set a code on my Comand 2.0 head unit.Having done some research online some people say a code is needed but some say it isnt. The reason I ask is I have not been able to find a code in my paperwork for the head unit.
Many thanks.

I have a Bosch Comand 2.0 headunit and I concur with the people who say you don't need a code.

if you do replace you battery, you will need the radio code. You can go to the dealer and request the radio code for your radio. You might also have to remove the radio and retrieve the serial number of your radio. The other thing you can do is hook up another battery with battery cables connected to your ML and carefully replace the battery and making sure the positive cable does not touch gound. This will prevent you imputing the radio code, reprogramming your windows and sunroof, and also set the time.
