Merry Christmas. Looking for advice...
Hey there, My name is Dan, I am a new member and am wanting to get back in to the world of Mercedes. My first (and only) Mercedes was a '73 280 SEL 4.5 named Gus. I loved that car, but got rid of it bacause the crappy Mercedes mechanic I had convinced me to run screaming. (I was young). Since then, I spent 10 years as a BMW Tech, and now an Elevator Mechanic. I have only owned BMW's since those days, and have had really great luck with them. 500k miles on my 320i. 200k on my 525. 240k on my 528 most recentlly 300k on my 740il. (all of which were still running when I sold or gave them away.) Currently my 740il needs 5k worth of cosmetic work (do not get bullet resistant glass!) and while looking for a new car I accidentally stumbled across an '04 S600. That got me reminiscing about my old 280. I have always felt the Mercedes to be a more luxurious car, but I don't know much else about them. I have gleaned tidbits of 'sensors being an issue', srs lights on a lot, etc., but do not know much else. Any information would be great. I am a 6'1'' and do a lot of road tripping. I love the size and confort of the 740il, and am looking for similar in Mercedes. I do not have a lot of choice in the Portland or/ Vancouver wa area, and am limited locally to a small number of cars available. Although I am not afraid to buy a car and have it shipped in. BMW's are easy to work on, Tune ups etc. Are the Mercedes easy? What I am looking for is a longer wheelbase car, 6-8-or 12 cyl is not a concern. I like the creature comforts especially when driving long distances. Nav, heated seats, active cruise (mercedes calls it distonic cruise?), bluetooth. My kids would like adjustable rear seats, but T/S if it doesn't work out that way. lol. Thank you guys in advance for welcoming me, and alowing me to invade your world.
Thank you for any Help!
P.S. My son reminded me that Our old Pastor gave me his broken 190e and I owned it long enough to fix it and sell it, so I owned 2 Mercedes. Lol!
