E Coupe driver seat not snapping back in position

Even the Benz dealer is a bit confused at this one:

I don't have the power/memory pack on my E Coupe's front seats.
When letting a passenger in the back, you pull the handle of the driver seat and slide the seat manually forward. Then, you slide it back, and snaps into the position it was in (same distance from steering wheel).
Since a minor accident (being hit from the back, where no airbags went off but the headrests did), when I do the same exercise, this is what happens: when letting a passenger in the back seats, you pull the handle of the driver seat and slide the seat manually forward. Then, you slide it back, but the driver's seat slides ALL the way back, to it's farthest distance from the steering wheel (which means that you have to then manually adjust the distance).
The passenger seat is still working properly: if I let someone step in on the passenger side, the passenger front seat does nicely snap back into its original position.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.
Sounds to me the bumper or whatever holds the seat in preset position broke during the accident.
Time to find a dealer with qualified mechanic.
