big bill for a Service B maintenance = (

Today I had to take my 2004 C230 Kompresssor to the dealer for a Service B;
I left my car there and now they just called me: it will cost about $2,700 for some repairment and I was SHOCKED. I asked the rep send me an invoice to take a look at the issues more specifically, and now I reallized it too technical, I really don't understand it much. I know my mother has been driving the vehicle and she is a safer driver, no speedying, no harsh on the gas pedal. She never had a ticket before.( in the past 15 years). The car was taken care very well except it is 8 years old now; only 70K mileage though. Anyways, can anyone help me to take a look at this invoice? I really don't know what to do now. For this amout of money, I should just buy a new car like Smartfortwo.

Thank them for their time, if you can't diy then find a good indie and get a second opinion.

Good luck.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)

$534 will buy you 4 tires at Costco, not just 2.
$130 for draining the coolant and pouring new one in?
Did you hear the "stealer" description before?
I would only let them do the alignment, although they don't indicate there is anything wrong with it. Did your tires wear out evenly?

You probably don't need to do any of the extra work immediately. The coolant flush should be done every 3 years, so if it's due and you don't have the time/desire to DIY, then give them the OK on that. Unless you want to visit an indy for it, which means more inconvenience and no free loaner, just to save a few $$.

The MB battery tester has a very low threshold for the "replace battery" advice. Better keep your old one until it dies.

Tires you can check yourself. If they're worn down to the wear indicators (5 mm transverse bands across the tread every 60 or so) then replacement is due.

If the car drives straight and the tires wear evenly, then wheel alignment is inadvisable. At worst, they could un-align the perfectly good alignment you have now.

The suspension can be checked by a specialist workshop who offer free inspections. If I OK'ed every MB workshop recommendation to replace suspension on my car, I'd be short $3000 by now. (torsion bars, bearings, ball joints - all still fine and independently checked)
