Advice on Extended Warranty?

I have a 2008 S550 with 28,500 miles on it. Love it! My warranty is up on Monday (3 years) and my local dealer is offering me an extended warranty for 3yrs/30K miles for $2772 plus tax with a $100 deductible, all ordinary wear and tear items excluded. He is offering 4yrs/70K for $3910 plus tax. I do worry about all the electronics on the S550. Can anyone advise as to whether I should purchase the warranty? The company that is backing the warranty appears to be a reputable company.

Unless you get a genuine MB warranty forget it, the dealer makes more money selling off brand warranties which could be out of buisiness when you need it. I assume you purchased a pre owned MB other wise you would have 4 years. I have been burned by purchasing a addon warranty from Caddilac on a new car because the salesman spoke so highly and they gave you an extra year. When I needed it in year six, they were out of business, the salesman and dealership got their money up front. MB or nothing, put the money in the bank.

Electronics are probably the longest lasting items on those cars. Sensors do wear out occasionally, but they cost in $100 range so would fit close to your deductible.
Extended warranty is simple insurance. If your car had lot of troubles so far, you really need it.
Close friend bought years ago Ford Taurus for $12k and purchased extended warranty.
In 4 years the car generated $14,000 repair bills (that was years ago again) so the extended warranty really payed for itself and he still drove the car reaching 10 years of age.
But from forum reviews extended warranties are milking cows for dealers, who do lot of unnecessary replacement just to take advantage of it.
So this generally boils to your life philosophy >>> do you have $2 mil umbrella policy on your house, or renters insurance? Those IMHO are way more important that car repair insurance.

For me, if it's a Mercedes I get a Mercedes warranty and wouldn't own one without it. I've owned a couple M-B and due to their level of sophistication and high repair costs, the extended warranty is a no-brainier. The only item of concern is what I pay for it. Both times I got the max warranty for about $2K. I know this is a good price because one dealership was the "no haggle" type where they really did price everything at a better point than anyone else and then wouldn't budge. I think that was $2.2K for a 2008 E-350 4Matic with 50,500 miles that I got covered for max years and 135K miles. Repairs are very expensive and having the warranty and roadside assistance where they pay hotel and food is a great feature (which I've used). Don't own any Mercedes without the extended warranty.

I bought one for mine and I believe in having one for any Mercedes.
