Considering buying used but need advice

I am thinking of buying a used Mercedes but really do not know enough about them to make an informed decision. I have about $10K - $15K budget, I live in Central PA so RWD is out. I'm leaning towards a 2000-2006ish C series sedan or wagon. My questions are:

- What would be the best car in that range?
- Are there any models/years I should stay away from? I was reading that around 2001 the quality wasn't up to Mercedes standards.
- What would a typical yearly maintenance run? I plan on doing the general maintenance (Oil, brakes, etc.) myself which should save some but if i'm going to get one I want to keep up on everything.
- What are some of the issues I may run into above and beyond general maintenance?

A couple that I found in my area are the 2003 C240 Sedan & 2005 C240 Wagon

Thanks in advance!

Figure out the size first. Not too many people are satisfy with size of C so E is next choice.
Those years have very good years reliability wise so you should have good choices.
4-Matic are harder to find while wagons are rare and sell at premium.
Each model section has common issues sticked on the top, so it easy to find as Fly advised you.
Welcome to the forum and good luck in your search.

Thanks for the advice, I'm a tall guy (6'5") so that may be an issue for me. I found a 2005 C240 local that I can test drive to see if I can fit and like the feel. I will head over to a specific forum when I narrow down what I am going to get.
