Smile Need help - A Class purchase

I am new to this site. My wife wants to buy a Mercedes A Class as we have a growing family and we need a bigger car. We are not sure what size engine or actual model yet but our budget is £5000-£6000 and we would preferably like no more than 50,000 miles. Its more that likely we will be getting a 2005-06 plate.

I have spoken to a few people who have told me to steer clear as apparently after 50,000 they are prone to problems. I find this hard to believe with MB as its always come across to me a solid top brand but I do understand that its still a car and every car can have problems.

Is this a good family car for me to buy? I dont want to be forking out on expensive repair bills. I would also appreciate it if someone could let me know what is the most economical model of that age. Thanks in advance. Mic

Welcome to Benzworld, it would be better to ask fellow owners of this model on the following sub forum;
