Gus from Australia, restoring 500 SEC W126.
Hi guys, my drive car is CLK 320 C208 (1st generation), but that's not why I'm here. I'm restoring a 1984 500 SEC W126. Looks like it's going to be a labor of love. Mechanically it is fine, having traveled only 235,000 Kilometres (around 141,000 miles). It hasn't survived the harsh Aussie sun and weather. The main issues that I can see is a re-trim, folding seat retaining latches, both front fog lamp glasses, grill, and (surprise, surprise), the rear window is de laminating. Also, I need to know if there is available replacement dash veneer (the car is right hand drive).
So, I have come here to communicate with others doing, or having done, this kind of restoration. Any words of advice would be great, I also have the CD workshop manual.
