New owner of a 1997 SL320

Hello BenzWorld, thank you for such a great space for Mercedes-Benz owners!

I work for a MB store in Michigan and recently scooped up a '97 SL320 from Florida. Bought it knowing the top hydraulics were sketchy*, the body is 100% rust free and pretty straight. The front seat needs to have a panel replaced and the passenger seat control module is bad but it's still a comfy place to spend time.

With 117K on the clock I get a misfire on Cyl 3 sometimes when it's cold and it also idles rough & lumpy at times, especially idling while stopped in drive. It'll get new plugs in the spring as well as fresh fluids.

Under way this car is fantastic! Power is more than adequate and the inline 6 makes a great noise when spun up! It handles well on new Continental Extreme Contact DSWs and is a very comfortable touring car.

* I need to shout out to Klaus at Top Hydraulics, they did a complete rebuild for me (all 11 cylinders!) and my top's performing great! They were very quick and professional, a treat to deal with.

Unfortunately the LCD screen of the radio was broken and the system near unusable. Got a Pioneer DEH-2400UB from Crutchfield for $80 (now $75!) with wiring loom & removal tools. Installation required a call to tech support but they got me sorted on a Sunday night in 15 minutes. Great service again! Nice basic stereo as well.

Anyway, I've used this forum for years to find answers at work as well as for my wife's 2005 E320 and figured it was time to join and share my experience.

Thanks again BenzWorld!
