Why did 80's US Benzes differ from Euros ones? Anyone like US better?
I think I understand why the bumpers were different, but why the headlights?
I have never really gotten a clear understanding as to why (I was born in 1991) the headlights were different? I know it's a US DOT reason, but what is it?
Also, when did they drop this rule? I know it was sometime in the '90s because all W140 had the same headlights. And when the US did drop that law, why did they never fit the R107 with the square headlights? I know they had to be allowed because the W126, w201, and w124 all had the square headlamps. Would've made a good facelift if you ask me... (Considering I think the SL looks better with the 2 round lights.)
... Also, while I have your attention, does anyone find the US spec better looking that the Euro spec?
I know it's an unpolular opinion, but I have always found the US spec to look beter. They just look more... "expensive" or more... "desgined". It's not the right word, but close enough. The different dementions in the headlights as oppsoe to just one large square, the bumpers looked better with more chrome and like they fit on the car. (I have always thought a Euro spec w126 looked really funny with those small little bumpers. Such a big car, such little bumpers.)
Anyways, just curious. If this has already been discussed, link me to thread and I'll delete this one. Thanks!
Here's a pic of my US spec W124
