Has anyone ever drained there gas tank?

I am trying to figure out a way to safely drain my gas tank. I have a 2005 E-500 sedan and need to get the fuel out of it to pull the fuel pump but I can't seem to fish a line down the fill tube. HELP!!! I have too much gas in it to pull the pump and filter sides out without it spilling all over my cabin.

Probably the easiest way would be disconnect the hose coming from the pump into engine bay, hook up an extension into a can and running the fuel pump drain the tank.
Pump comes on for few seconds when you turn the ignition on, but you could also make a jumper at the relay to avoid annoying key turning.

Is the car having pump inside the tank? I would subscribe to WIS or other publication to see what factory advise on this model.
