Thumbs down Want to Buy Mercedes Benz 300TDT

I could use some help on brokers or dealers that get involved in used Mercedes diesels. I am looking for a 300TDT wagon 1981-1985 in fine to excellent condition. I plan on having it independently inspected prior to purchase. Some listings on e-bay, but not much success elsewhere. Looks like I am going to have to use a broker/s to search for me. Any recommendations? Thanks

A 123.193 in excellent condition? I cannot remember if Mercedes Museum would have had one, where else would you find a 30 year old car in excellent condition?

He was not being a jerk, it was not meant to offend you. His point is anything that was
on the road for 30 years or was stored for 20 of those 30 years is going to need something.
The wagons are a rare bird from that era. I do know of an 83 300TD sedan that has 66k miles
that will be going up for sale in the near future. It is one of the cleanest early 80s MBs
I have ever seen. So You may very well find what you are looking for, like you said it
will be serious search.
The last super clean 300 TDT wagon I saw went for sale in SC in 2010 with 71k miles.
If I see a good one listed I will PM you.

I am not a Mercedes Benz expert. All I know is what I have read recently including looking at e-Bay Motors sales, several Mercedes books and pricing guides including NADA. Like I said I'm no expert. I asked for help amd got a curt response on grading standards. In any event, I appreciate your input. I am not a collector. I want a rust free diesel from that era that I can use on a weekly basis and may bail my faimily out if things get hard. Of course I want the nicest car I can find but not for Car shows. Thanks for your inputs.

I see them on daily bases in my city. Some of them have painted wheel caps, what makes them over 40 years old.

And here is a wagon as good as it gets. It is about 1 hr of driving from me, so I'll be happy to inspect it for a 6-pack.

If you'd checked Peachparts a week ago, a guy (Delibes) was selling an 83K-mile 1982 300td. He put it on eBay for $14,750 buy it now price and it was sold within two days. Beautiful car -- or, beautiful pictures, at least.

I just looked at a well-kept '85 with 260,000 miles a week or so back. It had an ominous rust spot near the back corner of the right panel window, the channel on both front doors for the weatherstripping was rusted out and the sls accumulators were totally gone. Acceleration was poor and the car pulled to the right (seized caliper, I think). I offered $4K, the seller wanted 5. It was on ebay, so I submitted the top bid ($3800) and the seller backed out. Here's a link to the action if anybody's interested.

If I were really hot to get another 300td I'd drive 3,000 miles to buy that Lagunitas car Katjek1 linked to -- after arranging a PPI, of course. $5500 is a good deal for a rust-free wagon with less than 300k mikes
