Spoilt for choice
Presenlty, I am considering the purchase of a reliable long distance runner in a situation where fuel economy is very important, as is reliability. Low sulphur Diesel 50ppm or better is not always available and tank range is very important.
First choice is a 2008 W211 E320CDI V6 with 62,000km. Second choice is a 2009 W211 E220 CDi 4-cyl with 69,000km. Both are in pristine condition.
Choosing between the two is very difficult. The 320 uses the OM642 engine which is possibly the best V6 Diesel ever. Powerful, frugal and utterly reliable. The 4-cyl I don't know anything about but its power seems sufficient and fuel economy could be even better than the V6.
I drive at a constant 110km/h and usually don't step on the accelerator pedal.
Does anyone have knowledge of both? Which would you suggest for the intended use? Three passengers plus luggage, travel in a sector of 100 - 1,600km. I expect to be doing about 2,500 km per month.
