My Auxiliary Fans Were Running Backwards!
I replaced both of my auxiliary fans because it seemed every time they would start up the engine would shutter. Sometimes the car would jump forward at a red light because of it.
Replacement of the fans is really an easy job, you just need a good assortment of tools and the willingness to figure it all out. My car is a W202 C230.
I used new ACM brand fans, as the original AEG fans are no longer available. They fit exactly and come with the original MB plug-ends, so they just plug right into the existing wiring. But shortly after I changed the fans, I noticed the car overheating and the A/C compressor switching off at red lights and drivethru's.
I inspected the fans and discovered they were running counterclockwise - backwards - both of them! I switched the polarity and I am happy to report things are back to normal. All it takes to switch them around is a screwdriver to pop on the side of line end-plug. You can do either plug- the one on the car or the one on the fan. Just make sure your fans are blowing INTO your engine bay, across your condenser and radiator.
Here's some picks of the plug-ends:
