Any reason NOT to replace brake pads with ceramic?

I believe I need to replace the rear pads on my '85 300TD. Seems like most all of the parts houses here only stock organic compound pads, but can order in ceramic. Any reason not to spend a little extra $$ to get ceramic?

Also- I only found one place that could order semi-metallic, but they are about the same $$ as the ceramic.

Thanks in advance for replies.

Do a search on "brake pads" or "brake dust" and you will see a lot of discussions on this subject.

I wanted to replace my OE pads because of the brake dusts. I ended up with OE pads eventually.

Just ceramic brake pads doesn't mean much and can be danger.
Do Akebono ceramic brake pads and you will love it.
Amazon has good prices on them.

I changed front with akebono still have semi-metallic on rear, the cleanliness is night and day. As for performance, I think they are very good if not better.

As mentioned this forum is littered with alternative brake pad discussions. But to answer your question, the only possible reason not to buy them (from what I've read) is they are harder on the rotors. But on the other hand, rotors are not very expensive.
