I have always liked Mercedes but have usually gone with the more affordable automobile. Recently a friend who is a dealer put a 91 SL500 up for sale and I had to have one. I didn't buy the 91 but did end up getting a 96 SL500 that was always serviced at the MB Dealer and with only one owner. The car is super tight with no rattles, shakes or wobbles. Everyday I fall more in love.
It isn't in perfect condition but I will get it there slowly. Already did a full detail, installed new plastic windows in the top, and have new floor mats on order. Little things like the little thing you grab to move the vents are broken (2, one center vent, one passenger side vent). Hope to obtain useful knowledge from this site.
Here are some photos I have taken, not the greatest but something to go buy nonetheless.
Now two questions. Should I join the MB Club of America and what are some good parts dealers? I have heard PerformanceProducts but not much else. I would love to get my hands on a catalog that would have many OEM parts such as the little vent parts I mentioned. Thanks, and I hope to get to know some of you.
Welcome!! Excellent choice for your first Benz! I would highly recommend joining MBCA, I have been a member of the GA Peachtree section for about 11 years now. I hesitated joining because I thought it would be a bunch of old fuddy duddy's; but was pleasantly surprised by the youth of the group and the diversity of background of the members and the fun stuff they do. Also the magazine is great and is a one stop shop for all things SL, the JUL-AUG issue this year was the "SL issue"
