MERCEDES BENZ IN MILITARY

The ADF in Australia has just bought the range of G class Mercs.

Down here we are used to the land Rovers.

Apart from yet another blow out cost in Australian Politics it is good to see
the Mercs up and running for our Army.

They are mostly meant for Humanitarian aid, I myself personally would take this machine to the absolute full capacity that it can handle, and otherwise would expect that it should perform in suspension and axle areas to a superior capability.

I am not sure yet if it they have intercoolers, I would expect they do, very hot conditions here in Australia.

For 220,000 dollars per unit one would hope that they can withstand
a longer time between oil changes.

The kilowatts, 135 only, is a vehicle that is mainly used in cleanups and assistance.

Won't be seeing these around Malaysia, Africa or Afghanistan. Not really meant for combat.

Maybe just meant to look like a Hospital on wheels in the bush.

Toyota Land Rover can still do the job, they are hard to flip over even on sandy slopes.

Looks like you have an out of control government as well.

We had Homeland security vehicles show up in the nearest city and the top brass had a new Ford Raptor. What the heck does a commanding officer need with a Baja truck?

Total waste of taxpayer dollars. Excessive and damaging to our economy.

Our military trucks all stink. Expensive and completely useless.

Aghh.... Anyway, the infantry needs the good stuff and the rest of the support should be driving basic utilitarian south african landcruisers.

I would disagree with the infantry only needing them. They are not the only ones who go outside the wire. Also, some of the newer trucks may be expensive but they're more useful than ever now.

I do agree with the excessive spending on trivial things, such as nice vehicles for officers.

I mind expensive vehicles less than famous $900 toilet seats US Army is using.
Everybody deserve good tools for the job. German Polizei driving Porsche makes headlines too, but why?
They would not catch 300kph car in Crown Victoria.
