New ignition switch and key.
I am faced with a dilemma, our 2001 S500 does not have an emergency key. It does have two keyless cards which are currently working fine. But i suspect that at some stage we will go to use the card and discover we are locked out! I do have a new leather dashboard which I could fit and this has come with an electronic key which i presume is paired with the dashboard mounted reader and ignition switch.
My question is...if I swap the ignition switch with the one currently in the car, will It recognise the key once paired to it and will I be able to start the car and then recode the keyless cards using the two hour relearning feature. Or will it end in tears with a car I can't start and no way of locking. Has anyone done this before? Is this venture doomed to failure because the ignition switch reader is paired to the cars ECU?
Is there anyone in the Reading area UK prepared to help me recode the old emergency key with the current set up in the car for a reasonable price?
Thanks in anticipation for your advice. Andrew.
