Advice Plz - 2003-4 E320

Howdy All!

I am looking at purchasing a used E class and have found 2 that I would like to take a look at. One is a 2003 E320 with 74,500 miles ($16,900) and the other is a 2004 E320 with 94,000 mile ($13,700).

In doing some research, I have seen some less then desirable reviews on the 2003-2004 E class cars.

Am hoping to get some information from all you experts out there, not so much on the specific vehicles but rather broad based on the E class manufactured in this time period.

Greatly appreciate the feedback!

Reliability

I just recently traded in a 2004 E320 wagon and loved it. It was pretty much bullet proof and most agree - - -however the SBS brakes always worried me a bit and I have heard quite a bit about the gas tank seal leaking vapors and being very expensive to replace.

SBC brakes have 10 years warranty so if the plug wasn't fixed by now, you will be still covered.
It become routine that each new model is getting bad reviews in first years.
I bought ML320 in the 2nd year it come on the market and it was bashed extremely heavy as being first popular digital car was hard to service by untrained mechanics. Yet 15 years later the models are very reliable.
Same IMHO apply to W211 models you are looking at. The engine proves itself to be bulletproof in older models, while the chassis is very desirable.

In my research for purchasing an E320 on AutoTrader, I've checked all the Free Carfax reports and found that all 320's have the same problems up to about 80k miles. After that, most seem to require standard maintenance only.
