I have tried the carsoft 7.4 and I can honestly say its the its the worst program I have ever used. After wasting 2 hours loading the software which is hacked version that you have to re-hack just to install, it great if your "Jason Bourne".You need two laptops running one to read the 25 pages of the hacking procedure and writing down each stage as you do it, as its so easy to get lost in what you'v done. Then when its all up and running you eventually plug it into you car it cant read jack sh-t. Its comes up with no EGS found. Well that's just wonderfull!!! two hours of my life I will never get back. Utter garbage!! Plug in my MAXIECU from Poland that reads everything apart from not having a coding procedure and the Good old EGS (FTC) is still there and hasn't left in planet. Do not waste your money on this Carsoft 7.4 product....its nothing like hacked Star we all hoped it will be. Buy MaxiECU direct from Poland at 200zl about £36.00. Dont bother buying it in the UK as cost over £100 pound then you still have to wait for Poland to wake up the following day to send you activation key, which strangely is not for the software you have loaded onto your hard drive but the interface ODB plug. Arr I hear you say with this Polish multiplexer I can then use my other software PCMSAN,CAR CODE ODB2, ODBscanV330, DashCommand well carry on dreaming!!! This multplexer is locked to the MAXIECU software and you you cant do diddly squat about it. Yes you can upgrade it to "bluetooth" but when your car is stuck in limp mode with BAS/ESP light on is that really a priority "no its not".And why would you leave the keys in your car with the ignition on whilst sitting in your front room hoping the thief about to going to steal your car is going to fix it at the same time.
Back to the original problem of W168 automatic. BAS/ESP light on. (F) or no gear Display at all. Cant read fault codes from FTC as car is limp mode. You have changed the brake light switch,Charged battery up,checked electrical plug hasn't fallen off the gearbox. Disconnected battery for 30 minutes and connected back up and done the steering angle sensor set up using left to right of the steering wheel and seen the ABS light go "out" so you no the steering is set "ok" but the BAS/ESP light is still on. Sorry to say you have a fried FTC unit inside your gearbox. £1300 for the part. Not a problem you say as they repair them now for £230 online. Well that's just a waste of another £40 in postage and your broken ECU comes back lovingly wrapped up like extinct DODO egg what a waste of money. Option 2 buy a second hand ECU but if your car is coded you are are pretty much dead in the water as no one would want to try a clone and old FTC that you cant read with the donor part.Mercedes will tell you there all coded. They are not as my car drives perfect built in July 2001. This car accepted a totally different ECU (FTC).Original A028 545 02 32 VGS K01 replaced with A027 545 99 32 VGS K03. Read and cleared all codes with the Polish software and then found out it could read the steering angle sensor as once out of limp it could then find it. Why the FTC completely burnt out is beyond me as the car was never boost started and the alternator rate was spot on. Would I take to the car on a trip to the South of France.....Not a chance in Hell even with its 60k true mileage. Un reliable over complicated Dog!! Why do Mercedes wire the BAS/ESP light up to the gearbox so it sends you on wild goose chase/trot(Basil Fawlty) as the case may be.
