newbie question

Hi,

If any of you have any insights as to why my fuel gauge, oil gauge and speedometer stopped whilst the car is still running. Then I started to hear some vibrating sound and when I turned on my signal light, the sound disappeared. when I arrived at my destination, I turned off the engine and tried to turn it on but it won't start anymore.

I had it towed and brought to my mechanic and I was told that it needed ignition replacement. But then, my mechanic called me and told me that it's not the ignition and he is still trying to figure out what's wrong.

Can anybody tell me what's wrong?

I am new here, a female and a teacher..I bought the car from a cousin two years ago..it's 1993 E 300. I am dreading a big cost to fix it but I'd like to get some insights from this forum.

please help. Thank you

Welcome on board (new here to..but without Car trouble!)

Tough one, could be numerous things, ECU (PCM) may of developed a problem, Alternator (do you Americans call it a generator??) may of stopped working!

Certainly sounds electrical and the vibration you felt was the engine not firing on all cylinders....more info' required for a better diagnosis.

Good luck.
