Post Purchasing a 1981 300SD

Hi, I am new to this Forum.

But I have question regarding purchasing a 1981 300SD from a private seller.

The car is the Bay Area, it had done 137,000 miles the guy is asking for 5000 dollars, is that a fair price?

Also, just wondering if anyone know what to pay attention to while testing out the car? Any thing that I should check in particular or any tests that I should do when looking at the car??

Would really really appreciate any help from the experts!

Hi, tyo_123! Welcome to Benz-World, where it's all about the "Benz!"

"$5,000" for a very, very good condition '81 300SD w/137K miles may be a very fair price all things considered.

I would want to do a circumspect inspection of the car, while viewing it, driving it, as well as listening to car and the engine run at different RPMs and speeds.

Complete set of records would be helpful to this end. You may be looking at a well-preserved creampuff, or a neglected POS. Without seeing the car in-person, there's no way of answering your Q accurately as to the price.

Do you have any pictures of the car? If so, post them and let the forum see what it looks like.

i'd pay for a Pre-Purchase Inspection from a recommended garage (AAA etc) ... have them check everything mechanical, electrical, body, seals ...

then, make a list of what of needs to be repaired & deduct that from the purchase price
