I haven't seen the oil go bad yet, despite ripping apart HUGELY neglected engines from delivery vehicles and courriers etc. Cars that were pulled out of a field and driven till they stopped without changing the oil or anything like that for 40kmiles, and that was after they sat for years...diesels of old are always clean inside, just wipe with a rag and shiny metal is there, no build up of crap as the fuel is a "cleaner" of sorts and does not evaporate and less a messy gum like gasoline. Sure they throw rods when run out of oil, but no sludge. Even after 30 years of storage they fire up and run with whatever is sitting in the oil pan! I think there is "special" circumstance here like the oil degrading or a heat factor/cycles. The fuel isn't the issue, it never was. Maybe a short drain interval is coming...
