Top down + sunny SD weather = EUPHORIA!!

Hello all, '01 SLK320 here. Registered a couple of days ago but couldn't think of an appropriate intro until today....Cali weather of high 70's - mid 80's with the top down, I could have driven forever! Plus it was also a bonus on the parts that I found in a hidden gem of a place but first let me paint you a picture (if you can bear with me I promise it'll be good for anyone that needs stock parts).....

I traded my Ford Edge for my '01 SLK320, was originally gonna trade for a BMW, but one of my friends told me to take a look at MBs and test drive one to make for sure I wouldn't like it...BOY WAS I WRONG, I absolutely fell in love with MB once I took it out on the fwy! I did test drive a CLK320 and it took me 4hrs to finally decide that my first MB was gonna be the SLK. As the months pass my stock antenna mast became a victim of antenna-napping , fortunately they did not damage the base in the process. It has been 4months of tiresome and relentless research for either a stock or stubby antenna mast (I had decided on the R171 stubby or even a stock or R170 stubby from all the threads I had read here) and at 5am this morning I was ready to accept defeat so I took a nap and was just gonna enjoy this wonderful weather. While debating what I was going to do for the day I checked the world wide web just one more time before accepting defeat......a salvage yard was advertising parts from a '01 SLK230, I had called these guys once, a few weeks back, and they confirmed the whole antenna assy was gone, referred me to some of their sister yards and same answer. Well today I decided what the heck the same MB was being advertised again that they still had parts so why not go see what is left. The guys was nice enough to look at the car for me before I had to drive over there and told me he didn't have some of the spare parts I was wanting but referred me to another one of his counter-part yards. I couldn't remember if I had called them a few weeks ago too so I said what the heck, worse case scenario is that they still don't have the parts. The gal on the phone told me that they usually don't inventory items like that so I would need to come down and look at the car. At the yard, the mech escorted me thru their lot and I swore I was in import parts heaven, it was like Christmas!! We walk up to this GORGEOUS, what used to be a VERY well kept red '01 SLK320. There was quite a bit of front end damage, hopefully the owner didn't get too hurt from it other than the heartache of letting this lil beauty go. I was looking for the lightbulb housings for the taillights so was contemplating on whether to take just the housings or the entire assy (which I didn't need), I went with the housings, couldn't justify getting the entire taillight assy when mine are perfectly fine and someone else may need them. As I'm tooling around in the trunk I do a qwik scan for any other items I needed from there (ie: those little panels in the truck that conforms to the wheelwell-don't know what its purpose is yet beings there's only insulation under it but I'm still in my honeymoon phase )....and it smacked me in the face (not literally but the effect was pretty much the same ), an entire stock antenna assy in perfect condition! I was so excited I almost forgot the other things I was looking for. As I go to checkout I'm preparing myself for the possibility that I may get "raped" on the antenna assy beings it has been so difficult to locate. I told myself that I wasn't gonna pay anymore than $75 for the entire assy (possibly $100 if need be).....oh some insight on why I assumed I was gonna pay a lot is that I am also female and asian, not that I'm naive or weak but it happens (people like to prey on anyone they can). I tried to put on my poker face so they wouldn't be able to tell that I was so ecstatic that I got these luck, once again I'm a girl AND I love working on my own cars (I was done ). I put all of my goodies I found on the counter and the gal looks at it all, asks the mechanic if he thought $30 was good, and I think I hit her with my wallet cuz I flung it out so qwik before they had the chance to change their minds.

Soooo bottom line, there is a newly wrecked '01 SLK320 in Cali with some great parts that I have seen a few threads here looking for (ie: practically brand new tailight assys R/L and what not). As of today, 1/3 of the way back from the front end the car is in MINT condition for parts....even the stock head-unit is still there and no sign of environmental effects yet, which leads me to believe this is a fairly new wreck. HOWEVER, (other than the lighter assy, antenna assy, and taillight bulb housings), the driver side (US) door is gone.

For those who are in need of parts compatible with '01 SLK230 (R170) she's not gonna last. I intend on trying to move some monies around to see if I can get some small cosmetic items in the next week or so. Oh one more thing, the stock auto dimming rearview mirror in this particular MB has the lava lamp effect (one of my other wish list items for my baby-not complaining cuz the antenna was the most difficult item for me to happen upon). I don't know if they will ship but if anyone needs their info lemme know. Once again sorry for the winded intro but I was SO EXCITED I needed to share with ppl who would appreciate it. BTW thank you so much to all the loyal MB owners that have shared tech tips and such to newbies like me!!!!

P.S. For those who might be mad at me for sharing this lil find-shame on you for not sharing and for those that appreciate the info-I hope you would do the same for other MB lovers.
