Foolishly washed the engine, but had issues before that ...
I have a 95 s320, has had strange issues, been to the shop several times over the past few years for hesitation, rough starting after stopping at intersections, the only fix I have found was to shut the car off and restart to clear the pause, and even that was only working maybe 7 our of 10 ten times. Being a woman, most shop owners look at me funny, tell me they have no issue with it, can't replicate what I have described, and shrug me off ... frustratingly, I have lived with the problem, as the car still runs, just never know on any given day how well. So, with 205K, aggravated with the inability to find a solution to this after hundreds of dollars in diagnostics, I was entertaining possible thoughts of selling to someone with more patience and deeper pockets than I, and gave it a good hand washing ... including inside the fuel door, and, yes, the engine!
Well, having read through some of the forums now, those of you in the know are already screaming, NO!!! Not thinking anything of the little open hole by the gas intake, I diluted the gas with water ... but even upon siphoning, replacing with good gas, and a dry gas for the water that was left, the car is still running very hard. Pedal to the floor to get anywhere at all, then it is slow to shift, idles hard and stalls at intersections, taking forever to get back up to speed. Have washed the engine before, had this car now for 7 years, put 139K of those miles myself. It had 1 meticulous prior owner, 66K and was 10 years old when I got it in 05. Otherwise in good shape, I would love to see 300K, has newer harness, recent suspension work, new gear box, upper engine rebuild in 09 ... I have put a lot into this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
