If you are not familiar with MB, I would suggest you arrange a PPI with an independent repair shop that is familiar with benz. The few hundred this costs will either confirm the car is in good condition, find things that kill the deal, or find other issues through which you can negotiate either a repair as a condition of purchase or a lower price.
I will say this: The W220, with all of its many features and baubles, is not a car for the faint-of-heart (or pocketbook). If you are the kind of person who will take it into the shop for everything, you can expect to drop a couple of large (or more) a year on it. Lots of things you can DIY, if you're so inclined, which makes them a little easier to bear.
My last suggestion is that you search around the stickies in the W220 forum (sedans section). There is lots of information in there about repairs and maintenance so you can see the more common (and costly) things. You can also repost your question there, since those folks will have specific things to say that aren't necessarily going to show up in this "general" forum.
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. (Winston Churchill)
