i want to buy a mercedes but what best suits my needs

I'm not set on a model. i'm going to have about 8 thousand dollars to buy one.

i've seen 80's up to 2000's for around this price at dealer ships here in Colorado.

i am not mechanically incline and don't know anyone who works on cars This well built so there is that factor.

i want something four door. good on gas anywhere from 18+ i don't care about speed. mainly durability and decent gas mileage. i'm sick of my honda civic hatch back and eagle talon....

what years and models would best suit these needs?

welcome to the forum, as you will see it offers opinions and advice from owners of all class models and production years. here you can educate yourself easily on topics of what to look for when considering to purchase as well as common problems/solutions.

as with anything of age, and prior use - the maintenance history is of vital importance.

the fact that you state you have $8k to spend on a purchase is one factor but more importantly you will need to consider what repairs are or may be needed that you're likely to run into during ownership, many of which (repairs) can be highly expensive and particularly when you're reliant upon someone else to perform the repairs.

suggest you try to better determine what particular model type/series interest you then go to that section of the forum here and read up. i.e. it is not uncommon that someone could spend $8 purchasing such a vehicle only to discover it needs $,$$$'s worth of repairs

that being said, it is equally possibly you can find something that is in relatively good condition (the key being mechanical) just prepare yourself with knowledge on some of the more difficult/expensive types of issues...thus, what to look for as having been previously addressed by the current or previous owner(s), i.e. timing chains, chassis/suspension, etc.

i know the 500 models and the 400 miles don't get good gas mileage at all.

i need something with average of 20 ish.

can someone please let me know year and model that does this? i can look into reviews repairs all that once i determing a make or mode.

Check out and E320 (the w210 forum). I have a 2002 that has been flawless after 110K miles. I did replace the water pump recently, but that's about it. You could get one for about $8k. I guess i get about 23-25 mpg.

I consider W210 body (1996 till 2003) E class best bang for the buck several years ago and over this time got stronger feeling about it. Same with twin brother ML for those years.
8 grands can get you pretty nice car with facelift that started at 2000. You might have to travel as those cars in good conditions become rare and doesn't sound like you want a project.
Good luck on your search.

Go look at a few different ones. Sit inside, adjust the seat and see how you feel. Then, drive it. That is pretty much the only way you can get a good feel for a car. Stay away from the V8's and V12's if you want good fuel mileage. I have a w210 ('99 E320) with V6 and get mpg in the 20's around town and 30 plus mpg on highway. Good luck!
