I am a newby to both Mercedes and this forum. Joined up a while ago and have only been lurking and researching for information about my car and repair information. Almost 1 year ago I bought my wife a '97 SL500. She wanted to try out a convertible for a while and see if she would really like owning one. This car looked REALLY good and the price was too good to pass up at the time.
The car has 140K miles on it. The convertible top was brand new, and the hard top is perfect. The interior is clean, origonal and in good order, the exterior is perfect. Paint, body, trim, all in like new condition. I have put in quite a bit of time and money into the car on mechanical repairs however. New head gaskets, brakes, injectors, power steering pump, and motor mounts. Still have a few more things to get to. Imagine that The wife's usual daily driver is an '09 Mini Cooper "S". A second gen. "new" Mini with a turbo. She loves it, but this SL500 has taken over her soul ! She absolutely loves this car !

Today I have been looking into a dreaded hydraulic leak in the convertible top mechanism. Small leak in a small metal line on the passenger side of the vehicle. I found that the line was not completely inserted and the clip that holds it in place was not fully engaged. Fixed that, now need to see if it stops the leak, but I still had a big question I know there has been a leak, but where is the pump and the reservoir located ? I know it's been leaking and I need to check the fluid level. I found this info on this forum tonight. Wonderful !! I love this forum !! It has been a huge help to me so far while owning this car. As I said, I'm a newby to Mercedes automobiles, so I need all the help that I can get when it comes to repairs on this '97 SL500.
BTW, my daily driver is an '03 Mini Cooper "S" supercharged car. We have owned 4 Mini's so far since 2002, so I'm ready for any mod's or maintenance.
on these cars, but this Mercedes is a completely different animal. TMI, I know, but I do appreciate this forum very much and I hope to one day soon be a contributor to the forums instead of just a lurker 1

I believe the pump and reservoir are under the spare wheel;

Thanks ! I found it today and found the level to be low. I filled it with Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak Fluid. Have a small leak, and hoping this will correct the problem.
