ML 270 alarm problem
Hi, I'm sure someone has probably answered this on another post, but I'm new here and can't find the answer I need yet. I've got a 2003 ML 270 which has a fault on the alarm. It only happens occasionally though, but sometimes when I press lock on the key fob the doors lock, but the indicators don't flash and after a short while the alarm starts to 'chirp' repeatedly and the indicators then flash as if the alarm were going off. At first, if I started the car and let it run for 5 mins it would right itself, but last week it just would not work properly and I had to manually lock the car and just leave it with the lights flashing and the alarm 'chirping'.
I called a garage out on my breakdown cover and he opened up the fusebox, a previous owner has removed the fuses and the relay relating to the alarm sounder. Seems like they had this problem before.
Does anyone know what the possible problem could be, or if it's possible to disable the alarm completely so I can fit a separate alarm system, or is a replacement unit the only answer? The alarm, by the way, is now working and I can lock the car again!
A friend of mine who owns his own garage business and also owns a 2.7 Merc himself said that the MB electronics need maximum voltage from the battery or the electrics play up, causing possible problems like this, and I may have a cell going down in my battery causing this fault, but still having plenty of power to start the engine. Has anyone heard of this ? Any help or suggestions really appreciated.
