1999 ML320 UK model

Hi everyone . My car is a 1999 ML320 UK model. I am looking for a cause to a problem the car stated giving me a few days after activating the central locking and alarm system etc using the procedure in the manual.

When i bought the car last year the remote control battery was flat, and the car was on operating with no remote central locking or alarm. i was suing the key to lock and unlock the car.

The alarm just goes off while driving or just after starting the car. I can continue driving the car if i simply ignore the alarm sound, it does not seem to have an immobilizer function. The only way i found to stop the alarm is by switching off the engine. When i do switch it on again the alarm does not sound most of the time. However, if it does go off again seconds after restarting, I have to repeat the switch off then on process again until the alarm does not sound after restarting. I can then drive until the next unexpected sounding of the alarm which can be by the end of that trip or two or three trips down the line.

What would be causing this problem? Thanks in advance !
