Hello everyone. I am here mostly because my wife is the executor of her father's estate, part of which included some old MBs. We have sold a couple, but what we have left are:
I have been tasked with selling these cars for the trust. I come here in hope of some good advice. The only one of these cars that I am sure was road-worthy when my father-in-law died is the '76 450SLC. My wife and I drove this in our wedding. It is light blue with a cream interior. It has ~191k miles and is in excellent condition.
The 450SL is maple yellow with a tan interior. It has 76k miles, is in very good overall condition, but the hardtop has some paint damage. I have had it running and driven it around his property, but the steering fluid is gone, so steering is a bear until I get new fluid (anyone know the type), and assure there is not a leak (though, there must be, I would think).
The 300CD is a non-turbo and I got it to start today. The throttle is stuck - as in it won't return to idle. You have to manually pull the throttle back into position under the hood. Any recommendation here? The brakes are gone, so I need to refill the brake fluid (and discover the likely leak). It is not obvious to me where the master cylinder is (I don't have a way of jacking the car - is this accessible while doing so?). 146k miles on this one.
The 230SL is beautiful. I haven't gotten it to start yet. I suspect it has been sitting longer than the other cars, but it is in the nicest shape. I don't have the mileage handy. The cars (except the diesel) are all stored about 1.5 hours away from me.
I'd love some insight (or offers! ha ha!) on some of the cars. I am trying to figure out how to set a sale price on these. I am located in Ann Arbor, MI, and just this morning, I saw at least three 70's era SLs driving around. I figure if these cars would sell anywhere, it would be here.
Anyway, good to be here. Hopefully I'll learn a lot.
